〈CHEOLSAN4DONG PEOPLE〉 is a photographic work that attempts, through a process of dialogue, to bring together the individuality and agency of Cheolsan4dong residents with the neighborhood’s sense of place. Before each shoot, I used a questionnaire to ask participating residents about the places they wanted to remember through the photographs, as well as their preferences regarding staging, composition, gaze, atmosphere, clothing, and props. Their responses were incorporated into the images.

The portraits were made as self-portraits, with each participant triggering the shutter at a moment of their choosing. In this way, the photographs register each resident’s memories, narratives, and emotions about the neighborhood from their own perspective.
